The season 22 premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” picked up directly after the gas explosion that viewers saw during the season 21 finale.

Within the first few minutes of the Thursday, Oct. 9, episode, it was revealed that Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) were both alive and well. Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) also survived the blast, but a piece of ceiling broke off and punctured him below his clavicle.

Link began losing blood quickly. Before Bailey and others began operating on him, Link called his new wife, Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), to tell her he loves her. He also told Jo that if he didn’t pull through, she should adopt a big dog to protect her and her daughter, Luna.
