SEATTLE — La Niña conditions have arrived in the Pacific Northwest, according to a new advisory issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration .

The advisory, issued Thursday, confirmed that La Niña conditions emerged in the region in September as shown by below-average sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.

Typically during a La Niña winter the forecast for western Washington calls for wetter and cooler conditions.

“A weak La Niña would be less likely to result in conventional winter impacts” according to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

Experts say the conditions are expected to continue through the remainder of the year. Then, those conditions will either stay in a weak La Niña pattern in early 2026 or switch back to neutral.
