A Scottish grandad was flown into Edinburgh Airport after he was left stranded in a Greek hospital after a disagreement between his surgeon and insurers over his diagnosis.
David Bloomfield, 86, took a tumble which broke his hip while on a two-week holiday on the island of Crete in September. He travelled with easyjet and attained holiday cover through the airline which mean he was able to receive an operation at private Creta Interclinic in Heraklion on September 22.
After a week of recovery, his surgeon told the pensioner he could return home but only via air ambulance or on a stretcher. However David's insurers did not take this diagnosis on board and claimed he would be able to fly back on a commercial flight.
