An evil carer who stole nearly £300,000 from a vulnerable pensioner before going on the run has been jailed in her absence.
Pamela Gwinnett, 62, kept retired accountant Joan Green as "a caged animal", keeping her from her loved ones so she could exploit her . She changed the 89-year-old's landline number and padlocked the gates of her home in Chorley, Lancashire, ordering other carers to deny access to family members.
She went as far as lodging false reports with social services, claiming that the widower's family were robbing her, and making threats against her. Investigations revealed her accusations - which she said were backed by local MP Sir Lindsay Hoyle - were completely untrue, and Gwinnett was in fact responsible for stealing from her.
