Police in Chitsime, Lilongwe, have arrested a 32-year-old man, Benson Jeffrey, for illegal possession of a live pangolin.
According to Sergeant Khumbo Sanyiwa, Deputy Public Relations Officer at Lilongwe Police Station, the suspect was offering the pangolin for sale at Zamkutu Trading Centre around 2:00 PM. Police received a tip-off and posed as potential buyers to arrange a meeting with Jeffrey.
“When the suspect saw additional officers approaching, he attempted to flee but was immediately apprehended. His accomplices managed to escape, and efforts are underway to locate them,” Sergeant Sanyiwa said.
The recovered pangolin has been handed over to wildlife officials for safe custody. Jeffrey, who hails from Kamangadazi Village, Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District, is expected
