A historic landmark on Courthouse Plaza in Troy is being removed.
The Miami County Commissioners announced that the historic red oak tree located at the corner of West Main and Short Streets will be taken down because of its "advanced decline."
"The oak has been a familiar landmark for decades, and following the 2019-2020 Courthouse renovation, TCI [Tree Care Inc.] made significant efforts to preserve it. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the tree's health has continued to worsen," the commissioners said in a press release.
It has been determined that the tree is diseased and facing several environmental stressors. The damage from said impacts is irreversible.
"After exhausting all preservation options, we now recommend removal to ensure safety and the long-term health of the plaza
