The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association is disappointed that the National Police Federation is framing policing in the province as a competition between the two police services.

The federation, which represents RCMP, has launched an election campaign highlighting police resources in the province, and calling on each political party to commit to what they call equitable funding for RCMP.

The RNCA says the federation is urging the parties to “correct imbalances” between the RCMP and RNC.

The association says that approach takes the attention away from outcomes and accountability and toward institutional rivalry at a time when voters want concrete commitments to safer communities.
