A mother-of-six was starting a life sentence today for murdering a man in a booze-fulled rage. Laura Shanley stabbed Alfred James with a knife and left him to bleed to death on the kitchen floor after a row about her drinking.

The victim, who was known as Jamie, had been manipulated and coercively controlled in the days before the attack, a court heard.

He was found dying at his home in Edmund Road, Coventry, just after 4am on September 17 last year.

Shanley, who had been in a relationship with Mr Corbett, denied the killing but was convicted of murder by a jury at Warwick Crown Court on October 1.
