JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — One man is dead and another seriously injured after a house fire late Thursday night in Bloomingdale.

Officials say the fire broke out around 10:15 p.m. in Jefferson County. When crews arrived, the home was nearly fully engulfed in flames.

According to witnesses, a bystander attempted to go inside to rescue the man trapped inside.

Moments later, there was an explosion that forced him to run out.

He was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for burn treatment.

Belvedere Volunteer Fire Department, Hopedale Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wintersville ladder truck were all on scene.
