MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) - Officials in Michigan City say the network disruption the city experienced late last month was a ransomware attack.
The Sept. 23 disruption affected a portion of the city’s data and impacted municipal employees’ online and telephone access.
As soon as officials became aware of it, they say they took immediate action to secure their systems. This included taking parts of the network offline out of an abundance of caution.
Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch says the city’s focus is on safely restoring systems and ensuring critical city operations continue to function.
A forensic investigation is underway to determine the full scope and impact of the ransomware attack.
