HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County discovered a locally-acquired West Nile virus infection in sentinel chickens.
DOH-Hernando is informing residents of this infection and suggests basic precautions to prevent mosquito bites.
These protective measures include using repellent to protect yourself, emptying all outdoor containers that hold water to prevent breeding, and using air conditioning to keep the mosquitos outside.
DOH-Hernando and Hernando County Mosquito Control are coordinating prevention measures, including spraying for mosquito control.
