NHS Grampian has cancelled around 600 procedures following the closure of a decontamination unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary .
The health board announced last week it had discovered an 'unknown substance' on surgical instruments at the Foresterhill Campus Central Decontamination Unit.
The discovery prompted the cancellations of operations due to a lack of instruments, with focus turned to emergency operations, caesarean sections and cancer care .
STV News reports that it could now be eight weeks until the unit is back up and running, with a faulty compressor blamed for the issue.
Another Decontamination Unit at Woodend in Aberdeen currently remains open.
