A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the Oct. 9 shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Newburgh.

City of Newburgh Police said the fatal shooting happened inside a residence at 184 North Miller St. at approximately 8:17 a.m. that day.

Police officers who responded to a report of a shooting at that location found the 11-year-old boy dead from a gunshot wound.

The City of Newburgh Detective Division and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force immediately began investigating the shooting. During the investigation, a firearm was recovered, and three people police identified as "juveniles of interest" were located by police.

The coordinated response by city detectives, the task force and several other law enforcement partners resulted in an arrest within 12 hours of the shooting.
