NEWBURGH – Tragedy in the City of Newburgh Thursday morning, An 11-year-old boy was shot and killed inside a residence at 184 North Miller Street at around 8:15 a.m.

While police investigated, Newburgh Free Academy was in a lockout situation.

The investigation is continuing, and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the detective division at 845-569-7519. All falls may remain anonymous.

One source close to the situation said the tragedy may have been the result of child play.

By nightfall, a small group of people gathered outside the victim’s home with a makeshift memorial and prayers for the child.
