RAY, N.D. (KUMV) - People in Northwest North Dakota are reflecting on the first anniversary of the Williams County wildfires.

Two large fires burned 90 thousand acres around Ray and Tioga. They took the lives of two people, killed hundreds of livestock and damaged numerous pieces of property.

Haley Olson has never seen anything like it before. She said the conditions made it a long, drawn-out battle to fully extinguish the flames.

“My husband came back immediately after we were safe. He and his brother put on their best front and worked on spot fires for about a week, so they had very little sleep and were really diligently working to take out hot spots with the fire department,” said Olson.
