NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police said Friday they have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Kaiden Phillips.

City officials are expected to provide details of the arrest on Friday afternoon.

Phillips was killed after a conflict escalated into gunfire. Police said Phillips was a "smart student at Career High School, a standout basketball player, and loved by all who he crossed paths with."

The shooting happened on Sept. 27. New Haven officers found Phillips unresponsive near Bassett Street; he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police Chief Karl Jacobson said at the time they believed Phillips was shot at Lincoln Bassett Community School after hours, and they believed the shooting stemmed from an earlier fight.
