GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - The largest homeless shelter between Denver and Salt Lake City is closing on weekends after recent funding cuts.

HomewardBound of the Grand Valley (HBGV) staff and board of directors decided to close the North Avenue Adult Emergency Shelter from Friday to Monday mornings, starting Friday. Clients were told of the indefinite partial closure.

"HBGV relies primarily on local, state, and federal grants, foundation and nonprofit support, and private donations. Due to a significant portion of grants and foundation funding being unavailable this year, the shelter must adjust to ensure continued operations in the most effective and sustainable manner possible," HomewardBound said in a news release.

The partial closure will help the shelter conserve operating funds
