Giving the world an authentic lens into Black Chicago culture on Star Line was critical for Chance The Rapper. The theme and messages behind Star Line were influenced by Chance’s travels across Ghana and Jamaica, witnessing universal Black struggles. The album pays homage to his multigenerational influences with the inclusion of Chicago hip-hop legends Do or Die on the smooth and soulful “Ride,” his longtime friends and peers Vic Mensa, singer/poet Jamila Woods, who mentored him as part of an after-school program he was part of, and the Windy City’s hottest rap neophyte BabyChiefDoIt.
