Springfield will not pursue fire station brownouts after all, following a City Council vote and confirmation from city officials this week.

In June, the Springfield City Council passed a budget that included either 44 half days or 22 full days of "brownouts," which would have closed a fire station temporarily to cut costs.

Firefighters criticized this decision, saying it would stretch already thin resources and increase emergency response times in Springfield and Eugene.
