A former North Haven High School football player is suing the town and several school officials, claiming he was used as a scapegoat to cover up a history of hazing on the team.

The lawsuit references a “spank stick” and says it was a “generational tradition” for the team.

According to the lawsuit, upperclassmen on the football team would assemble the underclassmen in the locker room, instruct them to pull down their pants, exposing bare buttocks, and hit them with a large plastic spoon that was referred to as “the spank stick.”
