MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty inside a Shelby County criminal courtroom Friday morning in connection to the death of a Memphis police officer in April 2024.
Devaron Taylor, pleaded guilty to facilitation of second degree murder and multiple counts of reckless aggravated assault following the death of officer Joseph McKinney .
Taylor and now-deceased 18-year-old Jaylen Lobley , were allegedly involved in the shootout on April 12 near Geeter K-8 School that killed McKinney.
McKinney had been with MPD since 2020 and was assigned to the Raines Station.
Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Lee Coffee sentenced Taylor to 18 years in prison.
