ARLINGTON, Mass. —

Firefighters in Arlington, Massachusetts, faced challenges extinguishing a fire at a house under construction because of flames hidden in the walls and ceilings.

Neighbors reported being asleep when the Palmer Street fire broke out, waking to the sight of numerous firetrucks but hardly any visible flames.

Arlington fire officials explained that the fire was inside the walls and ceiling, causing significant smoke but few flames, which made it difficult for crews to locate the source of the fire.

"We were having difficulty finding the fire. We think it was in the void spaces, but there was a lot of construction products still in the building that caught on fire causing smoke, and that made it difficult again," Arlington Fire Chief Kevin Kelley said.
