LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) - Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an employee of the department accused of bringing drugs into the jail.

William McGhin, 47, an officer at the Columbia County Detention Center, was arrested on Friday following an investigation into drugs entering the facility.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office drug task force was tipped off by jail staff that McGhin was bringing drugs into the facility and giving them to inmates.

Deputies say a K-9 alerted its handler to the presence of narcotics in McGhin’s vehicle. During a search, they found a substance that tested positive for meth.

They also found meth in his lunch box, which deputies say he intended to bring into the jail.
