The Akron Zoo says one of its beloved lions will no longer be on public view.
Zoo spokesperson Elena Bell said Tamarr , a male, and the leader of one of two lion prides at the zoo suffers from chronic kidney disease − common for cat species as they age.
Bell said the zoo's animal care team has made the determination that Tamarr's condition has progressed to the point that the lion, along with his bonded companion, Mandisa, will no longer be on public view.
"Our top priority will always be to ensure that Tamarr receives top-notch care," the zoo said in a statement. "He continues to be under treatment for this age-related condition, and his care team is focused on his wellbeing.
"He is comfortable in his bedrooms and outdoor private night yard."
