MACON, Ga. — An Appling Middle School football player sustained a serious spinal injury during a game last Saturday.

Kelvin Howard is one of 13 family members, and his mother took leave from her job to care for him full-time.

Appling Middle School posted Wednesday on Facebook saying that some school staff visited Howard and said "what a joyful moment it was!"

"We talked, laughed, and enjoyed hearing Kelvin talk with the best spirit ever," the post said. "He even moved his legs today, a true testimony of faith, strength, and perseverance."

Bibb County Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Sims also posted saying that he visited Howard.

"Headed in the right direction," he said in the post.
