ST. LOUIS — Paychecks for St. Louis Public Schools employees were around $1,000 to $3,000 fatter on Friday, which the superintendent attributed to the new federal tax law known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

The paychecks included "a one-time refund of the excess taxes that were withheld since January 1st based on previous federal and state tax tables," according to a memo sent Friday by Superintendent Millicent Borishade.

Earlier in the day, Borishade sent an email to school principals indicating she was unaware of the additional payouts.

"There is a possibility that SLPS staff paychecks are inaccurate," Borishade wrote. "I'm looking into and will share more as soon as I find out.
