ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - George’s Flowers , a staple in the Roanoke Valley, will be relocating in the near future.

This comes after the city accepts grant money from the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation for flood mitigation.

“We want to make sure that that our business continues in the future,” said President & Founder George Clements. “This is just growing. It’s just part of our evolution.”

Clements has owned George’s Flowers since 1981 and has been located on Franklin Road over 20 years.

The property, however, is prone to flooding, which Clements said has been a problem for years.

“The flood about six years ago, Franklin Road in front of us out here looks like a river,” he said. “Our greenhouse has had multiple events where we’ve had up to four feet of silt in the
