The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said on Friday the Benzie Road Fire in Roscommon County is 101 acres and 100% contained.
Jeff Vasher, the DNR's resource protection manager for the Lower Peninsula, said "contained" means that the fire is still burning, but "it's not going anywhere."
"We have a containment line all the way around it, so it's inside that box," Vasher said.
The fire is in the Roscommon State Forest Area and is at the Roscommon-Clare county line, Vasher said. He said DNR firefighter crews will probably be there for another two to three weeks and several hotspots continue in the area.
"It's burning deep in the ground," Vasher said.
Michigan is currently experiencing a drought and state officials are urging residents to "put fire safety first."
