FINDLAY, Ohio — The Red Cross installs free smoke detectors year-round through its Home Fire Campaign, and that effort made for a busy day Friday in Findlay, as 20 households got theirs replaced.
October is Fire Prevention Month nationwide and serves as a reminder that winter is coming, the time of year when home fires peak.
The team of 10 volunteers were more than happy to have a busy morning across Findlay, helping people “sound the alarm” and improve their fire safety.
“On average, we lose seven lives a day to a home fire. And we know that we can cut that number in half if homes have working smoke alarms and if people know what to do when the alarms go off,” said Todd James, executive director of the American Red Cross of North Central Ohio.
