The Crown says Treyton Hoffman played an active role in the stabbing death of teenager Malik McDonnell-Mills.
“I said to you at the beginning (of this trial), this is serious business,” assistant Crown attorney Roger Dietrich told the jury in his closing address at Hoffman’s Superior Court of Justice trial.
“We have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Hoffman, acting as a party, aided and abetted (others) in killing Malik that day and is therefore guilty of manslaughter.”
But Hoffman’s defence lawyer, Lakin Afolabi, called the case “highly circumstantial.”
“You can’t be satisfied that he had a significant part in what happened,” he said. “He is on trial for his own actions, not the actions of the others.”
