Muhannad Ali wiped away tears as he unburdened himself of a secret he claimed has weighed him down for five years.

“I’m not lying to the court. I’m really telling the truth,” he said through an Arabic interpreter while responding to questions from assistant Crown attorney James Spangenberg.

“I’m being tortured by keeping the truth hidden inside me and knowing that there are other people tortured by keeping the secret inside of me.”

The confession from Muhannad Ali, 28, was that it was he, not his 31-year-old brother Bahaa Ali, who was driving a souped-up black Mercedes east on Southdale Road when it collided with a Hyundai Sonata as it was turning left at the intersection at White Oak Road on Nov. 3, 2020.
