ST. LOUIS - BackStoppers, a St. Louis nonprofit that supports families of first responders killed or injured in the line of duty, is now assisting the family of a fallen Sikeston police officer.
On Monday, officer Henry Franklin responded to a call for "mutual aid." Police say he was fatally shot while serving a warrant at a home to a homicide suspect.
A police standoff followed. The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“We stand by the family of Officer Henry Franklin, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and surrounding communities. Officer Henry is a hero and we will honor his legacy by serving his family today and for the road ahead," said Lt. Col. Lawrence M. O’Toole, BackStoppers Executive Director via a news release on Friday.
