PORTLAND, Maine (WABI) - The World Federation for Mental Health established World Mental Health Day back in 1992. It’s observed globally every year on Oct. 10 as a way to raise awareness about the importance of mental health.

Maine mental health counselor Abby Szotkowski says she’s been passionate about this topic since taking her first psychology class at the University of Maine.

The Monmouth native says mental health affects every aspect of our lives, and it’s important to take care of ourselves. She says therapy can be for everyone, and it doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment.
