Starting Jan. 1, Ohio will be taking part in a pilot program to use artificial intelligence in the approval of prior authorization in Medicare.

The pilot program uses A.I. for prior authorization is aimed to help patients and providers to avoid unnecessary and inappropriate care while safeguarding taxpaper dollars.

The type of authorizations that the A.I. could handle for small claim services such as tissue substitutes, electric nerve stimulator implants and knee arthroscopy.

“It will most certainly speed up claims and just getting things done if there are backlogs in the system,” said Dr. Robert McDole, director of the Cedarville Center of Teaching and Learning.
