TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross is urging residents to prepare for potential flooding as rain is expected to hit this weekend.

Residents are advised to follow local officials' directions and be ready to evacuate if necessary. "Turn around, don’t drown," officials emphasized, warning against walking, swimming or driving through floodwaters.

The Red Cross highlighted that just six inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock a person over, while 12 inches can carry a car away. In case of encountering a flooded road, they recommend turning around and finding an alternative route.

For those caught on a flooded road, it's crucial to exit the vehicle quickly, move to higher ground and remain there, officials said.
