BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A Bakersfield man was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to felony charges in connection with the fatal shooting of a teen at his home that occurred after he left a gun unsecured.

Gregory Wisniewski, 34, received a total of three years in prison -- two in connection with the deadly shooting, plus another year tacked on for convictions in other cases, prosecutors said.

On Jan. 12, 2024, a group of teens were hanging out at Wisniewski’s home on Provincetown Avenue in southwest Bakersfield and got hold of a handgun. They were playing with it when the gun went off.

Jayden Henry Marvin Jackson, 14, was hit in the neck and died.

The teen holding the gun when it fired was wounded on his left hand. He told investigators he didn’t think the gun was loaded
