BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Ring doorbell cameras helped Leeds police assist with a car break-in investigation that stretched across Jefferson County, leading to the arrest of a suspect who was pulling on door handles and stealing from unlocked vehicles.

Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said Savonte Deandre Bailey was caught on camera on the night of Sept. 27 pulling on door handles of cars near Ashville Road and Parnell Drive. Any cars that were unlocked, Bailey was taking items such as guns, purses, and electronics.

Neighbors handed in Ring camera footage from the night of the break-ins that helped Leeds police create a timeline of the crimes. From there, they used the city’s surveillance cameras and license plate readers to help identify the suspect.
