(KIMT News 3)-- Friday marks the deadline for the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) to comply with a federal order finding them in violation of Title IX for allowing male athletes to compete in girls’ sports.

The U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services issued the finding Sept. 30, citing multiple violations of Title IX’s prohibition on sex-based discrimination. Federal officials pointed to policies allowing male athletes to join girls’ teams and access female-only facilities.

The investigation gained national attention after a male athlete led Champlin Park High School’s girls’ softball team to a state championship, striking out 27 batters over five games.
