A Peoria County judge has ordered Calvin L. Freeman, 35, to remain in custody while he awaits trial for allegedly shooting his girlfriend earlier this week. Freeman faces charges of Attempt First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

Police responded to an area hospital on October 5 at approximately 4:50 a.m. after receiving a report of a woman with a gunshot wound to the base of her neck. The victim also suffered additional injuries, including a broken clavicle, fractured shoulder, lacerated lung, and broken ribs. She is reported to be in stable condition.
