As election day approaches, Cedar City's mayoral candidates are sharing how they hope to shape the city's future if elected.

Steve Nelson and Phil Schmidt are competing to succeed Mayor Garth O. Green, who decided not to run again after serving a single four-year term. The two will face off on Nov. 4 after receiving the most votes in August's primary election. Nelson netted 2,162 votes — just over half the ballots cast — and Schmidt received 1,355, St. George News reported .
