ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A 9-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday night after being struck in a hit-and-run on Lake Avenue, according to Rochester Police.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Lake Avenue just before 8 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck. Police say the child was with his mother and several others when a vehicle backed up and hit him, then fled the scene.

Minutes later, officers located the suspect and vehicle on Murray Street. The suspect, a 34-year-old Rochester man, was taken into custody and issued citations.

The child was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
