DEER LAKE -- Charges have been laid in connection with a fatal 2023 house fire in Deer Lake First Nation that killed three people.
Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Friday, said Nishnawbe Aski Police Service responded to residential fire in the community on Oct. 29, 2023. Three bodies were discovered and two other victims were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.
OPP and the Office of the Fire Marshal were called in to investigate and it was determined that the fire started at some point after fireworks were set off inside the residence.
On Oct. 6, a 28-year-old woman from Deer Lake First Nation was charged with causing death by criminal negligence and causing bodily harm by criminal negligence.
The accused was released from custody and is expected back in
