Working in the field of domestic violence is not for the faint of heart. As prosecutors, our goal is to seek justice, generally by keeping survivors safe and holding abusers accountable for their crimes. However, when it comes to domestic violence cases, it’s not usually that simple.
Survivors may lash out at prosecutors, try to manipulate the system or try to evade the criminal process altogether.
Some survivors’ stories will break the heart of most anyone who hears them.
Losing a trial is also heartbreaking — especially cases where we’ve worked incredibly hard and we simply couldn’t convince the jury the abuser was guilty.
Law
