MINNEAPOLIS — After being shot in the neck more than a year ago, Davis Moturi still isn’t doing well.

“Still not well enough to work. I’m still dealing with the aftermath, the trauma,” he said.

Moturi was allegedly shot by his neighbor John Sawchak . Moturi said he and his wife called the police several times about incidents with John before he was shot.

"Less than two weeks before I was shot, I called 911 to report my neighbor pointed a gun at me,” Moturi said. “Shortly before the gun-pointing incident, I reported … he made threats with a knife. There were multiple incidents like that. He just seemed to hate Black people.”

He said he was warned by several neighbors about Sawchak’s behavior. Moturi said he had a restraining order against Sawchak, and when Minneapolis Police Officer
