It took just four days of the new autumn term for a school vomiting bug to take out two members of our family. This one turned out to be especially virulent, and 18 children in one class and the teacher all fell ill with it. A couple of days of school were missed, work meetings were cancelled, and my two poorly six-year-olds felt very sorry for themselves.
Vomiting bugs are nothing new, but when you’ve had to strip beds and clean carpets in the early hours of the morning, they become something you start to fear. These illnesses often arrive out of nowhere, take everyone down, and then depart after a couple of days. Usually, everyone makes a full recovery, but if it’s an elderly person, a young baby or another vulnerable person getting sick, it can be quite serious.
