COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has issued reprieves for two death row inmates, postponing their executions by three years due to ongoing difficulties in obtaining lethal injection drugs.
James Trimble, who was scheduled to be executed on March 12, 2026, will now have his execution date moved to March 14, 2029. Antonio Franklin, whose execution was set for February 11, 2026, has been rescheduled for February 15, 2029.
According to the governor’s office, DeWine is issuing these reprieves due to ongoing problems involving the willingness of pharmaceutical suppliers to provide lethal injection drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Ohio has not executed an inmate since July 2018.
