RIPLEY -- The Winfield Generals and Ripley Vikings have been fighting to be among the final 16 teams when the Class AAA football playoffs start in a few weeks.

The Generals also wanted to rebound after their road loss last week to the Princeton Tigers.

Winfield marched to Jackson County Friday evening and used a fast and efficient first half to blow past Ripley, 58-21.

The game marked Generals coach Eddie Smolder's first game back in Ripley since he was roaming the sidelines leading the Vikings from 2015-19.

Smolder won 25 games with Ripley, including a 10-2 season in 2018. Friday evening's game was also his first game against his alma mater as a head c
