Lilli Clark misses crouching between the seats to braid a teammate’s hair during bus rides.

Clark said they’d start the braiding standing up but had to change the process after being scolded for standing while the bus was moving.

That is what the Stevens High School field hockey team senior captain enjoyed most about long trips to away games each fall.

“You don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and it really sucks,” said Jilli Ouellette, another senior captain for the Stevens field hockey team.

All Stevens High School and Claremont Middle School extracurricular activities, including sports, were defunded by the Claremont School District this year — one of many cost-cutting measures taken in the face of the district’s $5 million deficit.
