This is in response to misleading information in the Aug. 30 letter, “ Despite Dems’ theatrics, the sky is not falling .” Some facts were left out.

The writer claimed that due to President Donald Trump’s tariffs, the country had a $27 billion surplus in June. In large part, the timing of June payments were registered in May due to June 1 being a Sunday. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the government would have recorded a $71 billion deficit for June 2025, not a $27 billion surplus.

Another misrepresentation was the comment about Medicaid and “30 million people … gaming the system.” Of the nearly 71 million people on Medicaid, 36 million are children, 10 million are disabled, and 10 million are elderly. There are no reliable sources I know of that show that 30
