GRAND RAPIDS, MI – William McFadden is fed up with the gun violence that’s shaken his neighborhood on Grand Rapids’ southeast side.
He’s frustrated and tired of seeing teens, some he personally knew, die by gunfire.
The latest killing claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy visiting a memorial site for another teen who was shot to death one year prior.
Niles Murray was shot and killed earlier this month in what police believe was likely an altercation between two groups.
Niles’ death marked the city’s 10th homicide of the year – most by gunfire. Violence in Grand Rapids has been much worse in years past. Five years ago, in 2020, the city witnessed a record-setting 38 homicides.
